ANNOUNCEMENT FROM HUNTLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY

With Lexile scores being used in the school district, we have found that parents are confused and sometimes frustrated with finding books with a specific Lexile for their child to read. Unfortunately, they do not know how to do this, and public library catalogs usually do not include the Lexile score in a book’s catalog record.
 
Finding books only based on Lexile score is likely to further frustrate parents, as it is difficult for them to determine which of these books are appropriate for their child, and which are quality books. We have had many, many questions from parents at the Children’s Reference Desk at the Huntley Library, and we understand their frustration. We wanted to help parents easily find good books that will interest their child, and also have the right Lexile number. So, we have developed a one-on-one instruction service that is available in the library for parents or teachers. A parent taking advantage of this free service comes away with a list of books that will fit their child’s interests and reading preferences, and also fit into their child’s Lexile range. We have had many satisfied parents use this service.
