There is an African proverb that states: “It takes a village to raise a child.” This is
something your Chesak/ Martin PTA takes to heart. Family engagement matters
to education. Research shows that when educators, families and communities
work together, students actually do better in school. The data also shows,
regardless of income or background, students with involved parents are more
likely to get higher grades, attend school regularly, have better social skills, be
better behaved, and, in the end, have higher levels of success. Knowing that
today’s children will be our future leaders, educators, and citizens puts urgency
into getting all families involved in our schools. The Chesak/ Martin PTA is the
perfect association in which to involve yourself.
The investment we make now is just that: an investment in our future. Schools
with involved parents and active PTAs, like Chesak and Martin, have already
figured out that helping children achieve their highest levels is a huge job that can
be best attained when the whole community is involved.
Regardless of the external factors that our schools face on a daily basis, family
engagement in education is vital to our nation’s future success. You don’t need to
be an educator, a community leader or a politician to have a say. You can be “just
a mom” or “just a dad” and make an impact that can change a school, a
community, a state or even a nation. With PTA it IS possible. So what are your
reasons for not joining now? Annual family memberships are available for only
$10. You may say: "what’s in it for me?" Check out the breakdown by grade on
what the Chesak/ Martin PTA provided in funding to your students and their
classrooms on our "About Us" page.
Without our membership dollars and fundraiser efforts, many of these programs
and services would not exist, or would cost you, as a parent, money out of your
pocket. Please keep this in mind when you are asked to become a paid PTA
member, or during our annual fundraiser efforts. Every dollar we make on
fundraising goes directly back into the school for the direct benefit of the
students and staff.
